I guess it limits it to more hardcore fans and ones they were hoping would do what they asked. in the last twenty minutes, from the Twitter responses of the dev, it seems like they chose a high price point to prevent people from breaking their friendly NDA and posting footage of the alpha. It seems the reverse of games like Squad, that were cheaper in alpha to encourage people to try the game and to thank them for being a tester. It is surprising that the devs chose such a high amount, rather than trying to snag a higher player count with a lower price. For me it is too much to lose in a gamble if the game is never completed. I'm surprised the devs are assuming lots of people will want to buy in at that price point.

My point was I've been burned, and a lot of people have, by early access games and Kickstarters that never really get completed. This company and game don't have the track record of releases like EA (good and bad). Using FIFA as a counter is comparing apples and oranges. Though big picture it is pretty similar to season passes and battle passes a lot of games are implementing. Well FIFA and Madden people pay to keep up with Ultimate team.
